Brooklyn, NY – Amateur Sleuth Yaakov German Helps Cops Catch Levi Aron And Solve Murder of Leiby Kletzky

    26

Yaakov German recounts the story of how he tracked Leiby Kletzky's final movements by going from store to store and checking security camera footage. German was able to follow Lieby's trail from his summer camp to outside a car lot of 18th street where he could be seen meeting, then following his killer, Levi Aron. Brooklyn, NY – An amateur sleuth armed with determination and intuition helped cops crack the murder of Leiby Kletzky by tracking his path to doom.

Yaakov German isn’t a cop or a private detective. He’s a property manager and father of 12 with a reputation as a do-gooder.

By banging on doors and scrutinizing grainy video, he uncovered crucial clues that led cops to confessed killer Levi Aron.

“At the end of the day, he should be given the credit for the cracking of the case,” said Rabbi Jack Mayer of the NYPD’s Clergy Liaison Program.

His investigation into the disappearance of the 8-year-old boy was unofficial, but personal.

German, 47, lives on 45th St. in Borough Park. Leiby vanished Monday after leaving a yeshiva day camp one block away, on 44thSt. – but the connection wasn’t just geographic.

“I found out my son was his teacher and I was even more motivated,” German said.

He heard Leiby was missing late Monday, and a few hours later – with the help of son Avrumy, 25, and the principal of Yeshiva Boyan – he had access to school security video.

    Thank you Yanky!
I’ll never forget, how several years ago, a fire was blazing in a Boro Park home. While firemen were planning what there best way up would be, Yanky jumped onto the ladder, ran up as if he is in a marathon, and 2 minutes later came down with a child in his hand.
Sadly, this time, the child no longer lived, but thanks to your effort, the body and the killer were found before it was too late.
God bless you Yanky and you should be proud of your son. he spoke so well and with so much heart…
“Leibi isn’t lost anymore, WE are lost”…. How true….

there is a difference between a meshugener and a roshein haloche. a nut dos or inflickts damage to himself. a roshe does it to others. the authorities should and must ask for the death penalty for this man.a meshugener must be protected by society, a roshe must be put to death, limaan yishmiu veyirou. we are in trying times,so yisbareru veyislabnu hadvorim, agute voch to all. salume

It seems to me that video cameras were crucial in solving this crime, and perhaps preventing other horrific situations. So much for those who worry about invasion of privacy.

I am very upset and angry.
I can’t understand that when R’ German found that the first video at The Children’s Place indicated that Leiby headed down 44th Street, why didn’t the police do their job & swarm down 44th Street looking for surveillance videos?
The Wheels to Lease video could have been found hours earlier.
The dentist office could have been visited hours earlier.
Mr. Aron’s identity could have known hours earlier.
Leiby was nebach killed only hours earlier.
Why aren’t our “leaders” asking these questions?
