The World Wildlife Fund says the many participants in Saturday night’s event include Times Square billboards, and the Chrysler and Empire State buildings. The decorative light “necklaces” on East River bridges also will go off.

Residents also are urged to embrace the darkness. Earth Hour begins at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Lighting related to public safety will remain on.

The actor Ed Norton, who’s a New York City resident, is the official ambassador for Earth Hour.

In all, about 2,800 municipalities in 84 countries will participate. Landmarks around the world range from the Great Pyramids to the Acropolis

I wouldn’t recommend residents to join in this blackout, it will only atract the criminals, in fact better to make sure every light around your house is on.

Why only for 1 hour? Turn all the unnecessary lights off altogether. It is a waste of taxpayers money.

BH earth hour has been a great and successful idea. its just like a “machsom lefi” where everyone stops for an hour. the energy saved will mean a better safer healthier world for our children and eineklach.

Floridian: – you are so right that it irks all NYers to hear it!

Boroparker: NY is so far from any kodesh that you are insulting real kedusha.

BTW, This is not suppose to be a blackout, only to turn off unneeded lights, specifically lighting that lights up the outside of landmark buildings & bridges etc.

It wont make one bit of a difference to anything and all it does is make the nonsensical libs happy. Well, I refuse to participate in manure!

What is the definition of a New Yorker?

A slumdweller who is too stupid to crawl out of the garbage and move to a decent state.

Looking around me I don’t see anything darker than usual. And I have all my lights on, even ones I usually don’t have on at this time of evening.
